We know you will love this unspoiled area of Florida’s Gulf Coast as we do. Clearwater and St.Petes Beach are the more famous holiday destinations, as is expensive Naples and Fort Myers, but in between these is a less well known stretch of glorious coastline, with long beaches, turquoise seas, lush green landscapes and vivid sunsets. The South West Gulf Coast has miles and miles of natural pristine beaches and clear water, with an average temperature of about 75 degrees year round and an ocean temperature of around 80.

There are many lovely shells to collect, and looking carefully you will find sharks teeth as well. Lots of beaches are shallow for quite a long way out, making them ideal for small children. Most will have car parks and may also have picnic tables and Barbecue facilities for your use.
Our home is about 10 minutes from Englewood, this being close to shore. Take the Beach Road in Englewood, turn right at Englewood Beach and you come to Middle Beach on Manasota Key – our personal favourite. This area is still largely undiscovered by Europeans who still tend to go where the package operators point them. Consequently it is much less commercialised, less developed, and less frantic.

The coastline comprises a series of keys or islands. In effect, giant sandbars, which have matured into a chain of islands running along the entire length of the coast. High- rise hotels are few in number and instead there is a mixture of small motels, small apartments and private residences set in lush vegetation
